Colour; Male face breast & underside a reddish brown, female more grey, wings black with large white markings. 
Nesting; Well concealed in tree branches.
Habitat; Woodland and gardens throughout the country.
Feeding; Mainly seeds and nuts, will feed insects to young..
Mating;  Mid April to end of May, 1 brood per year, 4 or 5 eggs per brood.
Life span in the wild; Average 3 years.

Lore;  The Chaffinch is known in Irish as the Red King. The male is also known as the bachelor bird because of his habit in some countries of wintering separately from the females
