Hare Irish; Giorria
Colour; Russet brown with white tail and underbelly.
Size; Adults weigh 3 to 4kg, Females usually being slightly larger than males.
Habitat; Widespread throughout the country from sand dunes to mountain habitats.
Feeding; Grass and heather are the main sources of food.
Mating; All year round, but mainly Spring and Summer. Litters from 1 to 4 young.
Life span in the wild; Can be up to 9 years.
Lore; The hare is said to have been the favourite animal & the earthly form of Eostre, the fertility goddess who gave us the name for our Easter holiday.
